GatherGrid™ Charity

Charity is in our DNA.

GatherGrid was invented while trying to get a group of people together for a charity created by our founder.

We enable you to earmark a portion of our revenues to the charity of your choice. The more events you create on GatherGrid (and invite people to!), the greater the potential for giving.

Charities you can choose:

Note: We are not endorsed-by, nor do we endorse these charities (although they're probably pretty great).

American Heart Association
Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association today is the nation's oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke. These diseases, America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers, and all other cardiovascular diseases claim nearly 870,000 lives a year. In fiscal year 2006-07 the association invested more than $554 million in research, professional and public education, advocacy and community service programs to help all Americans live longer, healthier lives.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross has helped people mobilize to help their neighbors for 126 years. Last year, victims of 72,003 disasters, most of them fires, turned to the Red Cross for help and hope. Through more than 750 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people each year gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world. Almost four million people give blood - the gift of life - through the Red Cross, making it the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the U.S. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global network of more than 180 national societies, the Red Cross helps restore hope and dignity to the world's most vulnerable people.
Grameen Foundation
Grameen Foundation (GF) USA supports microfinance, commonly known as banking for the poor. Microfinance provides small loans, savings, and other financial services so poor people can launch businesses. As an entrepreneur's business grows, so does her self-esteem, her family's well-being, and jobs in her community. GF was founded in 1997 by individuals inspired by Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank, Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Our mission is to empower the world's poorest people to lift themselves out of poverty with dignity through access to financial services and to information. GF provides local organizations with financing, technology and training so they can follow in Grameen Bank's footsteps. These organizations, GF's partners, serve millions across Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
JCorps Volunteering
JCorps International Inc, groups Jewish volunteers ages 18-28 to volunteer in Soup Kitchens, Senior Centers, Children's Hospitals, Parks, and Urban renewal in cities in the United States, Canada, and Israel. Its thousands of volunteers come from over 140 colleges and 400 countries. It is non-religious and non-denominational, 100% volunteer-run, and free for all volunteers.
KIVA
iva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. The people you see on Kiva's site are real individuals in need of funding - not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.
Lance Armstrong Foundation
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) believes that in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong, the LAF inspires and empowers people with cancer. We serve our mission through education, advocacy, public health and research programs. LAF has spent more than $9.6 million toward cancer survivorship and testicular cancer research, more than $1.7 million invested in the development of five comprehensive cancer survivorship centers across the country, and nearly $1.6 million invested in survivorship education and outreach initiatives.
March of Dimes
President Franklin Roosevelt established the March of Dimes in 1938 to save America's youth from polio. March of Dimes has saved the lives of millions of babies since our founding. And we won't stop until we reach the day when every baby is born healthy. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, and low birthweight.
Room to Read
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure. We seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education is a lifelong gift that empowers people to ultimately improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries, and future generations. Through the opportunities that only an education can provide, we strive to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time. Since our inception in 2000, Room to Read has impacted the lives of over 1.3 million children by: constructing 287 schools; establishing over 3,870 libraries; donating over 1.4 million children's books; funding 2,448 long-terms girls' scholarships and establishing 136 computer and language labs.
Teach for America
Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and professionals of all academic majors and career interests who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort. Since 1990, 17,000 individuals have participated in Teach for America, impacting the lives of more than 2.5 million students. Today, some 5,000 Teach For America corps members work in 26 urban and rural areas profoundly affected by the achievement gap.
The Acumen Fund
Acumen Fund is a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. We seek to prove that small amounts of philanthropic capital, combined with large doses of business acumen, can build thriving enterprises that serve vast numbers of the poor. Our investments focus on delivering affordable, critical goods and services - like health, water, housing and energy - through innovative, market-oriented approaches.
Tomorrows Childrens Fund
The Tomorrows Children's Fund was founded by a group of dedicated parents to help their children and others like them with cancer and serious blood disorders. With the help of friends like you, today, TCF provides a warm, healthy and loving environment for children in treatment; a full scope of services to relieve families' emotional and financial stress; the very best possible medical care; and funding for research on these diseases. All of which confirms our belief that through hope, hard work and heartfelt generosity, extraordinary things are possible.
World Wildlife Fund
Founded in 1961, World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) mission is the conservation of nature. Using the best available scientific knowledge and advancing that knowledge where we can, we work to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth and the health of ecological systems by: protecting natural areas and wild populations of plants and animals, including endangered species; promoting sustainable approaches to the use of renewable natural resources; and promoting more efficient use of resources and energy and the maximum reduction of pollution. We are committed to reversing the degradation of our planet's natural environment and to building a future in which human needs are met in harmony with nature. We recognize the critical relevance of human numbers, poverty and consumption patterns to meeting these goals.
